Phase one – open call
Prix Mobile began with an open call for entries. In 2011, over three weeks 157 valid entries were received from all over the world – Japan and Korea in the east to Honolulu in the west, Australia in the south to Norway in the north, with the majority coming from Europe, USA, central and south America.
Artists were assessed in both phases of the contest according to the Prix Mobile criteria, judges looking for evidence that artists were making images which effectively contributed towards the development of the form of mobile art.
With all entries in at the end of phase one, the panel viewed 4,537 images and drew up a shortlist of thirty contestants.

Phase two – personal challenges
Judges conceived thirty personal challenges which were then randomly allocated. Shortlisted contestants had ten days to respond.
ArtSpotter, sponsor of Prix Mobile 2011, tracked phase two using geodata to indicate location, showing contestants’ mobile galleries as they came together.

Judging the Finalists
At the conclusion of phase two, all completed personal challenges were scored according to the following formula:
First – 10 points
Second – 5 points
Third – 3 points
Weighting was given first to the value of votes cast (i.e. high value votes count for more) followed by the number of votes cast.
In the event of a dead heat, judges had to meet, discuss and decide the winner, second, third places as necessary. However, in Prix Mobile 2011, there was an unambiguous result from the votes cast.
